SD-WAN & managed networks

Connect your locations with a plan for performance and support.

SD-WAN is software-defined wide area networking. It helps manage traffic across business connections using centrally controlled policies. We help compare the platform, the underlying internet circuits, and the service team responsible for running the network.

When to consider it

  • Connect multiple branches to cloud applications and business systems.
  • Manage more than one internet connection at a location.
  • Consolidate network monitoring, configuration, and provider escalation.

What to compare before choosing a provider

What problem should the network solve?

Identify the applications, locations, and failure scenarios that matter most. Ask providers to explain how their traffic policies and monitoring address those needs.

Who owns each part of the service?

An SD-WAN vendor, managed service provider, and circuit carrier may each have a role. Clarify who configures equipment, handles incidents, opens carrier tickets, and coordinates changes.

What security is included?

SD-WAN and security services are related but not interchangeable. Check firewall, remote access, inspection, and identity requirements, and confirm which features or services are separately licensed.

What affects the quote?

Compare hardware or virtual appliances, platform licenses, security subscriptions, management, support, installation, and circuit costs. The number of sites and the level of operational responsibility assigned to the provider can materially change the quote.

Questions buyers ask

Does SD-WAN replace our internet connections?

No. It generally runs over connections such as broadband, dedicated internet, or wireless. Those underlying services still need to be selected, installed, and supported.

Does SD-WAN guarantee no outages?

No. Multiple connections and traffic policies can improve resilience, but the design, physical routes, equipment, and applications all affect the result. Ask for a tested recovery plan rather than a blanket guarantee.

Should we choose managed SD-WAN?

That depends on your team’s capacity and how much responsibility you want the provider to take. Compare monitoring, change management, support hours, and carrier escalation alongside the technology.
